I'll start -

Went to an estate auction a few years back with a number of colonial currency notes in a really nice framed display to hang on the wall. Unfortunately when framing all the notes had been glued directly onto the matting. I almost cried, thousands of $$$ in rare, desirable notes practically destroyed.

----

I regularly frequent local coin dealers looking for coins for my collection. Sometimes while I'm browsing there will be other customers come in looking to sell inherited collections. So one time an older lady comes in with a bunch of Rubbermaid totes just full of coins. Unfortunately her deceased husband had fallen for every telemarketer and tv coin salesman's pitch known to mankind and had "invested" tens of thousands of dollars into these coins. She cried when the LCS dealer told her the bad news.

I heard a story of a collector who got into a fight with his wife, who then took the rarest and most valuable coins and completely destroyed them.

Over on the Ancients forum, someone shared a story of a farmer who stumbled on a hoard of exceedingly rare post-Roman Gothic gold coins... and melted them into a gold chain necklace!

I saw a dealer who sold only high end TPG Morgan dollars and gold completely blow off a collector who looked about 15. The young guy asked two questions and the dealer barely acknowledged him, even though he was the only potential customer in front of that table.

Another older guy walked up to the table a few seconds later and the dealer transformed into Mr. Happy Dealer.

About a half hour later I saw the same young man, now with his father, I believe, buy a CC Morgan for about $400.

Ill bet the first dealer complained about his sales.

A long time ago I purchased a 1921S Lincoln Cent in a 2x2 flip. It WAS a real MS-65 Red or better. At home I used a screwdriver to pry up the staples and it slipped across the entire face of Lincoln.
A dealer I know used to have a helper that was a coin collector. Between this job and his regular job he wasn't home much. His wife got so irritated she left him and took all his coins and started to sell them off. Worse yet was they got back together but she already had sold off most of his collection.
