Found it about 8" deep near an old tree. Anyone able to gleam any info from it about its origins? Reads, "Good for 5c in trade" and then "A.S.Y.". Reverse is blank as far as I can tell.

Found in Memphis, TN so it could potentially be from Tennessee, Arkansas, or Mississippi.

No records found at TokenCatalog.com, so it will probably always remain a maverick.

Maverick means that the issuer and/or location cannot be determined.

Welcome to the CCF, Chalupapa!

Interesting find, but this one may be tough to ID. The fabric of this "good for" suggests late 1800's or early 1900's to me. The "A" may perhaps stand for American? Sometimes, initialed pieces like this can be attributed by a search of early, local and regional directories.

Good luck!
