i think this is a near and far bead 1980 quarter. the first obverse I think is a near. the second should be a far. opinions please. because I am not sure. I know you members will know

I would consider both far beads.
With the near beads I think they're touching or almost touching the rim.

To me, the top one looks near bead, but it is hard to tell.
Here is a picture of near and far beads to compare.
By the time you reduce it to size as, the difference is negligible. Value wise, they are both about the same.

thank you all so much yes the top coin is a near bead. but it sure is hard to tell. until you split the coin and put the pieces side by side. again thank you all for the input.

Don't know how two small pictures showed up.
One was supposed to be larger and the other S/A
to show how difficult it is to distinguish the
two varieties.
Here is a larger photo showing the small difference.

Thanks, that photo shows the beads position very distinctively. I found the the illustration in the Charlton to be inadequate.
