Hello all

I bought a big bag of coins a while back for around 20 Euros, all British, has loads of Half Pennies, 6 Pences, Half Crowns etc. all ranging from between 1900 and 1960's.
There is a few 1800s pennies/half pennies but its very worn, as are most of them.

I was looking through them the other day, mainly for errors (because lets face it, they are all worthless) but can across a 1895 and 1896 penny. I looked them up and for the 1895 it said about the 1mm and 2mm difference.

I have uploaded a few pics so you can see, the coin is actually a little better than the pictures do it justice, NintendoDS camera with artificial light doesn't do it justice.

It looks quite worn but the writing is all clearly visable, the 'One Penny' seems to be the most worn, the writing o the back looks near on perfect condition and her head seems to be worn, well the inside of her head, the outline is good.

I was just wondering if this is worth anything like this? I read unc ones are very valuable but but mine is worn, shall I just put it back in with the rest and forget about it or does it have any value?

All the best and thank you in advance

It is the rarer type but only worth buttons in that condition.

It's still quite a sought after coin by GB collectors, even in this condition. I paid about £3.50 for one slightly better than this, and that was a long time ago. You're lucky to pick one up in a cheap lot. I sorted through loads of Veiled Head pennies in dealer's junk trays before eventually giving up and buying one that a dealer had in a 2x2 in an album.

The distance between the Trident and the P of Penny is a really easy way to detect this variety the Trident being noticeably further away.

I'll keep hold of it, yea was pretty lucky. Some Belgian bloke selling a bag of about 200 British coins so took a punt.
They seem to have quite a few in Belgium, picked up them up from rommelmarks, they are like huge carboot sales. Got mint Indian Head pennies, 1838 USA Cent for £15 (which is frustrating, 1 side looks a little worn but in a strange way, all details are fine, the other side is immaculate, Some mint condition 1800 farthings for £2, 1806 half pennies for £2, Loads of Nazi coins, some 1600 coins for £6.

Though I look for banknotes so again only get coins when I cant get banknotes.

If your ever looking for coins I recommend coming to Belgium for the day to a big 1000 stand rommel, lots of coins to add to your collection for pretty cheap (they havent quite caught up with UK prices lol)
