thinking of putting a bid on one or two of these. your opinion on the grade, evidence of cleaning, and price range the coin should be bought for: near gem bu 1900 near gem bu 1892

I wouldn't go over MS62 money for the first two; they're not particular rarities. The third is probably the most valuable of the lot, but I'm left wondering why the seller didn't have it slabbed if it's actually Prooflike as he claims. 1892's are rare in Prooflike, and the value multiplies. I suspect it's going to go for stupid money.

The tone of the 1892 isn't that great.

Looks like the same reverse photo for the 1900 and 1901. Are the photos yours? I can't judge from photos. Maybe you folks can give me some tips.

1901 is an extreme rarity in uncirculated grades. there is likely several times more counterfeits than genuine pieces. I would not spend a ton of money on that unless I can know for sure it is genuine. 1900 looks like a good one, but the reverse is the exact same coin as the first one, hah. I didnt notice that at first 1892 looked doctored. the cheek should not have the same reflectivity as the field. I dont think lighting would have that effect.

I agree that the first 2 are worth 62 money. The pics on these two are much better than the third (though I would like to see the reverse pic of the 1900.) I think the greenish tinge is due to lighting. Also, the seller boosted the contrast a little too much. There is too much cheek chatter on both the 1900 and 1901 for a grade over 63 and I don't think they would grade out that high.
The 1892 pic doesn't look right to me. The picture looks severely photoshopped. I feel that this coin may have been cleaned due to the way the light is reflecting off of it. I would only consider purchasing this one if the seller has a very good return policy.

I took the liberty of locating the seller before my first post; he's one I've followed for quite a while and I'm familiar with his photographic style. The '92 is more the norm for him; he overlights his pics and the first two are actually among his better representations. My guess is that the '92 is borderline Prooflike, but the TPG's are very tight on that designation these days. The fields are extremely chattery (even knowing that a Prooflike finish accentuates chatter), and I figure it for no better than MS61. The seller is a large-scale operator with a broader offering than just coins; I consider them reputable if a little enthusiastic about their offerings. I've had my finger poised over the Bid button more than a few times with their stuff. In this case, the 1892 went for about $180, which is about right if it's legit. If it actually grades Prooflike, the buyer got a great deal.

That 1892 looks harshly cleaned on the reverse to me.

sorry ive been awayy from this thread.. I ended up not bidding on any of these coins. I do think I mixed up the 2 reverses of the first two coins. I dont know how I did that. I try to go back and fix it but I couldnt find the coin. sorry :(
superdave - you know what company (ebayer) these pictures are taken from (GSC). what do you think of the coins they sell> I would say they all seem real and most seem fairly accurate grades although some seem a llittle stretched on the grading... I bought an 1806 quarter from them... ill post pics later

I know I am late here... But I agree that the 92 was cleaned or altered some time in the last century or so it has been around.
Was thinking that the moment I looked at the pic. Glad to see some others had posted the same. :)
