Hi guys-

I have not visited my Buffalo nickels in many years (35+). Looks like there is a lot of activity on new varieties. Well, new ones to me LOL. Looks like I have some with only two feathers and a couple of 1916s without Fs. Also it looks like the guys in 1913 had lots of problems with their dies.

Found this 1913, reverse looks OK but it is rotated about 10 degrees. On the obverse the Liberty is very weak and it looks like the Indian has a bad case of acne. There is a die crack under the feathers and more die wear around the rims. Sorry about the scans. Looks worse in hand.

Any other new types I need to look for?

I think the obverse die was a late state, soon to be replaced.
Rest in Peace

That die has definitely seen some use.

I think I might see a slight die clash below the chin, but I agree; the obverse die was about to give

All 1913, 1914, and 1915 Buffs, even the proofs, show a weak "LIBERTY." The master die was re-worked in 1916 and liberty was strengthened.

There are a couple of minor doubled dies on both the 1913 Var 1 and Var 2 coins but the one to keep an eye out for is the 1913 Var 1 3 1/2 legged. The 1913-S Var 1 2 feather is also a goodie. I've written a book on the abraded die varieties (2 feather; 3 1/2 legged, etc.) for this series and therein I've listed 27 different 2 feathers and eight different dates for the 3 1/2 legged coins.
