Great finds. I have now found about 8 of them, all 1998s and 2000s. Still digging for a 1999. Have you ever found one, and how long did it take? Jim

I live in Washington State....... have been searching for an elusive 98, 99, 00 Wide AM. Has anyone on the west coast found a Wide AM yet of these three? Are most of these eastcoast examples? Eric

Bryan--those are nice! I see little of that nasty Cu/Zn corrosion! Great finds--congrats! Eric, there are so few P-cents on the west coast that finding wide AMs is nearly impossible!

I really just started looking for these Wide AM's about 2 weeks ago. I have never found a '99 but I will keep looking!

The top one looks like a normal coin with the effects of die polishing causing that slight space. The second one is definitely a Wide AM. A better picture of the first one might help but it doesn't look like a Wide AM

I have now in my collection from only looking at pennies in 3 months, I have (13) 1998 Wide AM's, (11) 2000 Wide AM's, and (1) 1999 Wide AM....It took me 5 years to find that one it has been enludeing me for a great while until last month I found it while going thru circulated roll's from my local bank.

This just isn't cool I think the only way I'm gonna get a WAM is either buy one, which takes away from the sport of hunting for them, or move to the east coast.

Hi, I am only going by the picture, but after a die clash, the portion where the bust effected the reverse die during the clash is polished and it sometimes opens up a gap between the A and the M. I've seen it where just the bottom right of the A is effected, some where the M is effected and some where both letters are effecting creating that opening. On the Wide AM pieces, the designer's initials FG is closer to the Memorial building than they are on the normal coins so that might help as a double check. See if the FG is the same on the 1998 as it is on the 2000. Again, I am going by a pretty dark picture so I am not sure on the 1998. Thanks, Bill

I took a few minutes to fiddle with the picture. Both the 1998 and the 2000 are definitely Wide AM coins! Nice:-) Bill

coffeegod,
I also live in WA and I haven't found a single one since I moved from PA almost three years ago.
If anything like it exists on the Denver Mint stuff, maybe we can find the first ones with D mintmarks :-)
Thanks, Bill
