I collect German notgeld, specifically from the city of Duren. I know of a few notgeld books for coins, but I am in need of some info on the paper money.

Can anyone recommend a good paper notgeld book?

Serienscheine? Grossgeld? Inflationsgeld? Verkehrausgabe? Kriegsgeld?

Kriegsgeld and Inflationsgeld for sure. Maybe the others. I am collecting any money issued by Stadt Duren.

I do not understand what the other three options you gave are...I mean, I translated them and understand the term, but not really what types of bills they describe. I may be collecting one or more and not really understand what I have.

Serienscheine are the small denomination notes from 1921 and 1922. They were meant for the collector market as they had very little purchasing power. There are a few different catalogs of Serienscheine: Kai Lindmann, Mehl and Keller are the three main authors.

Grossgeld is the higher denomination notes from the 1918-21 inflation period.

I also recommend you take a look at Reinhard Tieste's website http://www.tieste.de. He is one of the larger online sellers and has extensive listings. He has many notes from Duren available at very modest prices.

Verkehrausgabe are small change notes issued during WWI.

Thanks for the info lettow! I've been slowly trying to learn more about German notgeld. Most of the books on it are in German and that can make it difficult. I do want to learn German, so it is an opportunity to expand my knowledge in more than one way. But so far it is slow going and can be frustrating.

Also, thank you for the link. I am always looking for European dealer websites with Notgeld. He has a nice selection and I think I can learn a lot just looking around his site.

I do not really know about Notgeld catalogues but when it comes to dealers, I'd suggest ma-shops.com where many dealers list their items. At the moment there are 29 listings for banknotes from Düren.

Potsdam,

Thank you so much for the link. I hadn't run across that site before. And, I actually already purchased an item that had been on my wish-list for some time. Thanks!
