I found this in a box of old tokens saved by one of my grandfathers, and I'm curious about what it might have been.

It is about .75" (19mm) in diameter - a little smaller than a nickel.

Any ideas or guesses?

How about an old arcade token, from the days of the "nickelodeons"? A gaming token for sure, is it tin? Stamp is slender but pushed thru.

It may be nothing, but in the second pic I'm seeing a creepy face staring at me...

Or maybe it's what's left of Honest Abe? An altered cent?

Ha ha Spruett...that's the impression left by the $ sign imprinted on the obverse.

I don't know what kind of metal it is, but here's another photo after I cleaned it up a bit with metal polish.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. I see some elements aligning, maybe?

Interesting idea - and neat how you were able to superimpose the reverse dollar sign on Abe's face - but I don't think it's an altered penny. It's thinner and more of a tin color.
This shows it up against a one cent.

I chose the 1943 to superimpose because it is steel (should have mentioned it) and the color of your third pic looks right for that.

The thinness could be due to the wearing off of the designs.

Just an idea.

How much does it weigh?

I don't have a scale, but will borrow one when I can.

I seem to recall seeing a token or coin that looked like mine online, maybe on CCF, but I couldn't find it by googling. I probably will when I'm not looking.

Thanks for the good idea, in the meantime!
