Hey everyone, I've been saving up a bit and got the gold bug. I think the coins are so beautiful and obviously have intrinsic value as well. So far, I'm not sure if I plan on completing a gold type set, though that would be lovely if I could pull it off. Currently, I only have two gold coins (and one California fractional). I was looking at the US options and I saw the classic head gold $2.5 vs $5. I wanted to get both, albeit at different times. I was browsing ebay and there weren't many options. What is the price range I should be looking to pay? I'm looking for some graded, either in VF/XF and don't care about year. What would be a good price to target? And where should I look? Also: if you have any pictures of your classic head gold coins, please post! I love seeing them.

Actually, if you are seeking a graded one, look to buy at least a AU. The $2.50, I saw a ANACS AU 55 selling at $5 over spot.

Wait, is that for the years of 1834-38? Do you have a link? I'd buy it right now haha

I am currently working on a gold type set. I have all the $1 gold type 1-3, both $2.5, both $5, both $10. That being said all of them are ms61 and up, except the type 2 1855 gold dollar (they get into over $1000 in ms). Same applies for the $3 gold. All I need is the $20 pieces. Granted the Indian coinage is gonna be more money cause they have more demand. It's all a matter of patience and finding the right piece you like and what fits your budget.

Do most people not include these in gold type sets?

Coin, can you link the ANACS AU55 just over spot? I've wanted to buy some gold coins, and would prefer something with a bit of numismatic value over the modern bullion coins, though I am considering my birth year. I was bidding on a couple of $3 Princesses (is that the correct name?) for fun, but those shot high very quickly.

Ya.... I don't believe the $5 over spot for a graded AU coin, even if it is just a normal liberty. I would buy every one they had.
