So I found this picture here (left), and it's the first time I've ever seen a picture of this dramatic DDO. Tt's not in Wexler or my CPG. Does anyone know more about it?
That's one crazy looking date!

The first one is: http://www.varietyvista.com/10%20Wa...6PDDO003.htm

(sorry, not too much info on it there)

That second pic looks like a 1946 DDR: http://www.varietyvista.com/10%20Wa...6PDDR001.htm

Thanks...I can only gather the variety is still somewhat a mystery because few examples have been found--I'll keep looking.

Some think it might be a counterfeit since only a single coin has turned up. I had the opportunity to examine that one-a very harshly cleaned VF and it looked OK to me but then I'm no expert in detecting counterfeits if they are very well done. And it's actually a tripled die. It also had a moderately doubled Class V reverse best seen on "UNITED."
