I was told that Coin World checks out coins that my be worth something and do it for free. Silly me mails them the coins (uninsured and not certified mail) and I show a pic to a friend and he calls me an idiot.
My question.....can Coin World be trusted to send them back after they look them over?

I can't imagine why your "FRIEND" would say that.

I don't think Coin World will give you information about your coins, but I imagine they will try to return them.

If they are unusual enough or somehow 'newsworthy,' you may get some info. They are a magazine, that's what they do. If they did free appraisals, I'm sure they'd need to hire dozens of people for the task.

I do not recall CW's rules, but I know NN specifically says not to send coins but rather pictures.

I used to send coins to CoinWorld back in the 90s. They had a guy on staff that would identify coins and tokens and give some background in a column. I had several of my submissions published. I also had a few returned to me with nothing. I got all of mine back, but I only submitted weird things I found in junk bins that I couldn't id, things that I'd be out literally nothing if lost. I remember getting an ID for a token from a Cuban sugar plantation once, the guy was really helpful, telling me all about it's history.

I am pretty confident that you can trust them, though you should have used insured mail.

Maybe you should contact them and tell them that they should be expecting your package and also pay for shipping and insurance. This way, this might reduce the chance of anyone having "sticky fingers".

I think Coin World is trust worthy, you might send your coins w/ delivery confirmation or insurance if they are valuable.
