Hi everyone,
I believe this coin to be a kronenthaler of the Austrian Netherlands, issued by the last Holy Roman Emperor, Francis II.
The problem I am running into is that the kronenthalers were minted in silver, while this coin gives the overall appearance of being copper.
I would understand that the dark toning of the patina does not necessarily mean the coin is not silver, as silver can tone dark, but even the rims and the design of this coin seem to be brown. In fact, there is no trace of a silver surface anywhere.
I am starting to question the coins authenticity, even though everything about the coin checks out, except the color.
Does anyone have any ideas about this coin?
