Has anyone ever seen this type of date and reverse re-engraving on a 1895 cent?

Nice one CV would love to own it. The closest I can find in Griffins writings is a Gr-228 rarity 6 or Gr-229 rarity 5

Yes, I've had a few. You start to see the doubling on the Cent before you see it in the date. It's kind of like the 1919's with their MD.

Would collectors welcome, or be opposed to seeing the 1895 or 1919 Machine Doubling cents in a Large cent variety book?

By definition these are strike errors, not varieties but by example, the 1940 NFLD re-engraved cents are also Machine Doubling, not re-engraved, and are in many books, trends, PCGS population reports, etc..

Personnally, I'll be looking for that coin, same as 1919. I wouldn't necessarily look for every single MD available out there, but the most impressive examples I'll keep.
