Not sure that's a monetary coin, looks more of a token, amulet. The surrounding characters and even the center two I don't think are Japanese or any Oriental language. Gobblydegook squiggles. Need to see other side. Hummm...is it quarter size by chance? Fantasy game token possibly? We shall see...

The two center characters look like real Japanese (or Chinese) to me, but they're upside down (the bottom should be at 11 hours or so).
The surrounding inscription also looks like Japanese (with a lot of kana), and appears to consist of the same short text repeated three times. Don't know anywhere near enough to decipher (either this or the center).

Some kind of pachinko machine token would be my guess. But hard to say.

Well, Google says (note that Google isn't always correct with these things) that the center reads "Hori-dome" or "Hori-tome".

The outer lettering, which is indeed repeated 3 times, is in Japanese (Katakana) and if I read the tables correctly, reads "ho-ri-do-me-se-n-ta-a". Which translates to Horidome Center.

Horidome Sentaa, the katakana = romaji Holidome Center. Tokyo has at least one such hotel, a converted former Holiday Inn Holidome, and one is in Nagoya; doubtless there are several others. Not sure what the token would be used for, perhaps vending machines, laundry, or toiletries.

To clarify, a Holidome was a hotel designed in a cylindrical fashion wherein every single room was a room with an outside view by default, all of which faced in towards the central atrium. They were popular in heavy tourist areas, on beaches, etc. There were at least two or three that had the entire top floor penthouse suites with panoramic glass, so that you could have such a wide view. I stayed in one in Destin, Florida about 15 years ago.

I'd bet a button that this is a Pachinko token from one of the machines in the hotel.
