I was just wondering about the reason for the higher value for a morgan in a GSA holder. I see them at shows at a higher than normal price and in my Coin World magazine, a MS 1883 cc is about 25$ higher than one not GSA? can anyone tell me why

The GSA coins are ones that were found in a vault in the early 70's and the Government sold them to collectors for about $7.00 a piece and some lucky individuals received 1879-CC Morgans. I would copy and paste this but its pretty lengthy so I will just post a link and you can go there and read about the GSA sale http://www.coinresource.com/articles/gsa.htm

Over the years so many have been cracked out of the GSA holders, either by dealers for space and storage purposes or collectors for grading, that except for the 82CC thru 84CCs, the rest are in demand. Take a look at what they're getting for the 90CC and 91CCs in GSA holders. They'll put a hurt on your bank account! And they're coins that sold in the sale for $54 to $59 according to Leroy's book.

Then you have the people that sent their GSA coins for grading to anyone but NGC (they don't crack the slab open) that has lost their OGP forever also

Erm, how much would a 1893 CC Morgan be worth in MS63 in a GSA holder?

There was only one each for the 89,92 and 93 in the mixed CC lot, so I would think maybe----- CHINA!! Hey, if they can do PCGS and NGC holders, the GSA holder should be a snap!

One reason their higher because there is no doubt about altered or cleaned surfaces, some had extremely nice rim tone that must have touched the side of the bags they were stored in, mine were the common 82,83,and 84.

I've had just about every date that was available except for a few of the dates (79,89,93 and a couple more) all in GSA holders at one time. I sent a bunch of them to NGC for grading and sold all of them off except for a 78-CC
