The new British coin designs have been released today, and the mint has started selling "limited edition" proof sets in Platinum (250), Gold(2,008), Silver (10,000), and in ordinary metal (20,000).
1) Do you think purchasing these proof sets is actually worth it?
2) Do you think they will go up in value?
3) Should I just forget about the proof sets, and get a brilliant uncirculated set for $20?

Let me know your thoughts

From what I have seen of the new designs of the British coins, I wouldn't buy them, but its your choice. Also, is there any specific reason the number of gold sets is 2008 (for the year 2008) or was that a typo?

The Royal Mint website indicates the gold proof set is limited to a mintage of 2,008 sets. I think they did this purposefully.

I have just found a thread in the United Kingdom (Great Britain) Coin Forum, that deals with this topic. My apologizes.
