These two $5 eagles were given to my grandmother by my grandfather sometime in the 60's. The dates are 1887s and 1901. They have been in these 2x2's every since then. I will hopefully never have to sell these so I am not worried about having them certified by a TPG. However, I would love to get them out of these 2x2's and into an air tite. Any help on what size I need to search for on ebay? Thanks!

I like the serrated edges on the 2X2s.

The half eagle is 21.65 millimeters in diameter, so I think the 22mm Air-Tite is what you need.

I use ex British Royal Mint clear hard acrylic screw capsules, that were originally sold in proof sets and for encapsulated individual proof coins.

The sets get broken up by the dealer, and the individual coins are sold for a greater profit.

My coin dealer usually has them in a range of sizes to the nearest millimeter in diameter or thereabouts. The empty capsules normally cost me a dollar each.

Even the largest encapsulated coins can be stored in 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 album pages.

This sort of storage allows a viewer to handle each coin with out any fear of damage. Encapsulated Double Eagles can be handled by anyone with this sort of protection, even kids with stick little fingers.

Then again, you can always slab your more valuable coins, which is what most American collectors do anyway, and 12 pocket slab albums are available. It's just that I prefer not to have any coin slabbed, and screw capsules are cheaper.
