I thought these coins would be of interest.

Interesting-Coins-For-Study
This a "potty dollar" altered from a 1877-S Trade dollar

Interesting-Coins-For-Study
This the obverse of a "Smith Cent". These were done to improve a worn out 1793 Cent.

Interesting-Coins-For-Study
This is the reverse of the "Smith Cent".

These "Smith Cents" were hand done and are very close to the true design.

The top piece called "a potty dollar," and I think they carved them out from Trade dollars in latter part of the 19th century. Trade dollars lost their legal tender status and were only worth their melt value in those days, which was less than a dollar.

The second is an early counterfeit that was made to fill the hole for a tough coin. I'm not very familiar with the "Smith Counterfeits," but it seems like they have habit of getting pulled from auctions.

That's one of the best engraved "potty dollars" I've seen, NH Collector. I've long wondered if the initiators of these were in any way influenced by the demonetization of the Trade dollars. I do realize that other Liberty Seated denominations were likewise engraves, but the Trade dollars were the prime targets for this practice. First time viewers of these potty coins often get flushed ....

Cool Smith piece, too! Highly collectible in their own right, these are.

The Smith cents were sometimes reengraved worn 1793's restoring details, but many of them were 1794 cents reengraved to make them into 1793's
