I was sifting through the LWC hoard and came across this. The weight is correct, but wondering about the reverse. In hand, you can make out the wheat stalks but not ONE CENT or US of A. Leaning towards an error coin.

Looks like a "do tread on me" penny that was face down somewhere, the 2 indents may have held in place. Someplace like a concrete walkway/floor.

It's possible that it was stuck in a position to affect one side (the smooth sided) but I would have thought it would be down a couple of tenths (grams) as a result. Still at 3.1. And I got to wondering about the protrusion opposite the obverse punch. It happened sometime after the initial event.

I'm wondering if it's a uniface strike. I'm unsure though about which die was typically the hammer or anvil but since it takes a pair of planchettes the point may be moot. The reverse is smooth with just a trace of the outer devices.
