I picked up this coin in a grab bag at a thrift store and I believe it is Chinese but have no idea how old it is or even what it is. Any thoughts or suggestions?
It's supposed to be a cash coin fron the Shunzi emperor, 1644-1661. I don't like the looks of it at all... it definitely is not an official piece.
It's either a modern forgery, or a contemporary imitation. It was not difficult to use a genuine coin to cast copies in cheaper metals--this practice was pretty common in places like Vietnam or Indonesia at the time.
