Which have people found to be a better way to receive payments on auctions. I currently accepy Paypal, but am considering Bidpay as my primary or even maybe a secondary way to collect payments.

Thoughts?

Paypal is fine for US bidders with Confirmed addresses only. If you accept Paypal, you should always ship your items with Delivery Confirmation. If you print your own postage on your PC, DC only costs .13 on any package except Priority which is free.

Bidpay is an excellent way to give International buyers the convenience of Paypal without the risk for the seller. All fees are paid by the buyer. If you are going to accept Bidpay, however, you should sign up for an account with them. That way, the buyer only has to enter the auction number and your seller ID and the rest of the information will fill in for them.

We have many International buyers who love the convenience of Bidpay. We also have many who prefer to send money orders or cash. We do occasionally accept Paypal from our repeat customers who are overseas because we don't feel the level of risk is as high.

There is a lot of risk involved with accepting Paypal from any buyer that does not have a confirmed address in the US. Even if you have proof of delivery, Paypal will side with the buyer every time if he claims not to have received the item. Read over the seller protection policy very carefully. Paypal was definitely designed with the buyer in mind. However, the increased number of bids that you'll receive make it worth it. From what I have seen, auctions that don't accept Paypal sell for considerably lower amounts than those that do.

Well Susan, I will have to disagree with PayPal siding with the buyer every time as I had a buyer try to pull a fast one on me a few months ago! My account got locked up for a few weeks, which really p---- me off but after the review they stated I did exactly what I HAD TO DO as a seller and the buyer lost his claim. Actually the whole thing was an attempt to rip off the USPS for insurance as the buyer demanded insurance up front which I agreed to and paid for myself before shipping the item. After the item shipped, to the confirmed address provided by PayPal, the buyer claimed he had moved to another city and USPS didn't deliver, which they did, as the package HAD to be signed for due to the insurance coverage. Went on for over a month and the guy finally gave up. I KNOW beyond all doubt he got what he paid for but didn't get the extra bonus of an insurance payment! They tried!

What I said was that Paypal will always side with the buyer if the seller does not follow all of Paypal's policies, which includes shipping only to a confirmed US addresses. If the address had been unconfirmed, there wouldn't have been an investigation and you would have been out your money. However, if you follow Paypal's rules, you stand a good chance of winning a dispute.
