Most Lincoln Memorial cents are not worth sending off for grading, unless they are absolutely perfect. No spots, marks, dings, blemishes, nicks, or anything. Even graded pretty high, they still aren't worth more than the grading fee (with only a few exceptions for rare varieties). A lot of people here recommend that if you think the coin would be worth $100 or more, then send it off. Others say $300, but either way, LMC's are just not that valuable.

Okay. Thought there were some that were of value for errors. Not saying that this has errors. But I'm trying to learn.

I agree with scstrawn.

There are some that would be worth grading if they're in good shape like the Doubled Dies and the 1992 Close AM and 1998-2000 Wide AM.

Learn the specific error coins to look for, spend the rest When I CRH, I put aside in stacks the ones I want to take a second look at. The 1983P and 1988P for a doubled ear, Like Spruett said the CAM and WAM coins. Since I check for RPM's, I set aside all the 1959-1974 D & S mints, The 1972P and 1995P for major doubling on the front. There's a bunch more, to look for, you set your limit. Here's what I've done, use rubber drawer liner then tape paper w/ date/mm around the board, small boxes save anything worthwhile, BU's Wheats...

To the CCF!

If you are interested in learning about errors on LMC's try taking a looks at this site.

Very helpful info there.

Variety Vista also has a great list as well for just about every denomination.

Happy hunting!

The 1983P and 1988P for a doubled ear

To clarify, the '83 you're looking for is a doubled die reverse and the doubled ear on the bust is on '84s and '88s from what I understand although, I guess, the '84 is more well known?

I totally ignored the '95 DDO. That's also something to look for that's worth way more than face value!

For memorial cents learn the errors first. As has been stated, it is rare to find a memorial worth the TPG cost other than those special varieties that have been listed above.

So with this 1995D I'm using this as an example. Is the ear DD. And is there an Close AM on the obverse?

Here Lelah refer to this link:

http://www.lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html

It will explain Close and Wide AM in more detail for you and show you some examples. That should help :)

Looks like none of them are worth sending to a TPG.

Like mentioned above, the only way Memorial cents are usually worth sending in is if they are at least MS-67. Hitting that grade is very difficult.

Also, learn the difference between a VARIETY and an ERROR, they are completely different.
