Misaligned die (MAD) quite common And doesn't bring premium to
the value. The die crack is more interesting. Not listed on coinsandcanada.com,
but that doesn't mean it's the only penny with that particular crack.

Is that another small die crack running to the rim over to the right of the "T"? There also looks to be another one off the tip of the left leaf to the rim as well, with that crack continuing over near to the base of the "1", then possibly over to the "C". Lots of action happening there. Nice penny - I'm a fan of that one!

Ok hold the phone, pennysaver you made me look and I found this:

What-Caused-This-1939-Cent
hope you don't mind cpc2013,2 small cracks on top of "1".
Crack on "C" starts above on rim goes right through all of "cent" out the top of "T" back to rim.
Planchet issues? what ya think.
The "cent" crack is cataloged but I can't find this listed.

Sounds like that die was beginning to crack up pretty bad - this penny was struck near the end of it's life. CPC2013, if you carefully used a sharp hawthorn to remove the gunk from around that portion of the coin, I think you'd see the die damage more clearly, and perhaps find a little more. I'm surprised that the coinsandcanada site doesn't have this one, but I guess there are so many error/die damage varieties that they just haven't had them all submitted to them yet. The more I see this coin, the more I like it.

Thanks pennysaver and Canacoins for your info . The mark you see between the t and leaf is a scratch . The only crack that shows up under 16 x mag is the one above the c and across to the n in cent.

I carefully looked through my 64 nickels and found quite a few not listed. Did discover a nice example of a spitting queen!
