I realize that in this picture it does appear to say 1836 but I can assure you that in real time with a magnifying glass it is definately 1826. I thought when I saw the pic that it looked like the older year. It Definately is 1826

I do not see 1826, I see 1836. If the date reads 1826, then it is without a doubt fake. How do I know this? 1826 is a Capped Bust design, 1836 is a Classic Head design- two completely different coins. Also, 1836 had no motto while the 1826 had the motto on the reverse above the eagle. Even if the design was right, I would still doubt its authenticity since only 760 1826 Capped Bust $2 1/2 coins were minted and only 20 have been graded by the top 2 third party graders- it is an incredibly rare coin.

I second what biokemist said, if the date says 1826 then you have a fake coin because the design difference between the two dates

no one said it wasn't valuable, it is valuable even if it is a 1836, just maybe not as valuable as a 1826 would be. The design is different between a 1826 and a 1836 and if the date is 1826 the design is wrong, if the date on the coin is 1836 then the design would be correct. That is all we were stating

Thank you Brian1315, I understand. I can see the difference and after very close examination of the coin today, you were right of course. It was the information I was after. I really appreciate your time and effort to help me with it. So is the coin still sellable, or would it be something that only a particular collector would be interested in? I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Tenashere, Yes your coin is sellable. You could sell it at any coin shop, I am sure they would be more than happy to buy it. It is still a collectible coin and in decent condition. I am looking at a 2006 RedBook which is a bit outdated, but it shows a value of about $750.00.
