That coin had a mintage of only 760 circulation pieces and approximately 5 proofs. The highest PCGS-graded 1826 quarter eagle is MS61. It could be worth $5K~$50K based on condition. I'd say that one is rare!

You should add an "All of the above" choice. Very few made and worth thousands.
I'm not a big fan of slabbing coins, but this is one I'd definitely want to have authenticated. It could be a replica or counterfeit; but I sure hope it isn't.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!
Regarding value; if authentic, its value will depend on condition/grade:
Numismedia (these look like reasonably accurate retail prices, in this case) G-4 $2400 F-12 $5850 EF-40 $10,500 MS-60 $43,130
Grey sheet (wholesale dealer prices) F-12 $4200 EF-40 $6700 MS-60 $33,500

/drooooool =}...
if authentic, you have a very nice piece. only 760 minted and I bet only 100 or so still exist.

Thank you very much for the replies. Any idea how to get authenticated. This coin was found by my Grandparents when they were young, about 80 years ago. It was in plastic when found and has been in safety deposit box until about 8 years ago.

The Big 3 grading services are ANACS, PCGS, and NGC. Do a search on the Web and you can locate their informative websites. ANACS would be the best choice if the coin has been cleaned or damaged. Many early gold pieces were used in jewelry which usually causes serious damage. ANACS will authenticate damaged coins but the other services will not. If the piece is undamaged, PCGS or NGC-grading will likely allow you to get the highest price if and when you want to sell this rare coin.
Please post some pictures if you can. Forum members can offer their opinions on grade, damage, cleaning, authenticity, etc. Plus, we would all like to see this coin!

You have a couple of choices for grading and certification: 1. Do it yourself through ANACS ( http://www.anacs.com/default.aspx?A...ieSupport=1) just follow instructions on the site. 2. Find a coin dealer with accounts at either PCGS or NGC and submit through them. 3. Use option 1 or 2 above and no others!

if you could supply pictures we may be able to tell you if its authentic or not (according to how well the photo is) and save you some money on grading fees if it is counterfeit

I wonder what type of "plastic" it would have been in when found 80 years ago? Was plastic being used back then to protect or store coins> Did plastic as we know it today even exist in about the late twenties? Just curious. Mike By the way welcome!!

thank you all, pictures coming asap, gotta figure out how to get good ones with my digital. Also any suggestions as to how to post them would be good. Thank you again. I am not sure how the plastic was when the coin was found, I saw the coin out of the safety deposit box as I was not around 80 years ago, this is what I was told. I will investigate further with my mother about that. Good question. I will be back very soon with pics.

tenashere, Some tips for posting pics: - file size must be under 100k (we can guide you through resizing if needed) - file name can't have spaces or special characters (letters and numbers only) When you're ready to post the pic, just go to your original post and click "edit" from the menu bar. Might as well edit the title too ... say "PICS Added". Next click on the green camera icon at the bottom of the text box. When the pop-up box appears select "browse" and navigate to where your picture file is located on your computer. Select it and hit OK. This will post a string inside the text box. There's another step needed. In this text string, remove everything before "http" and everything after ".jpg" in the string. Then highlight the string and click on the "add image" icon at the top of the box (it's yellow with a mountain). Click on the preview button and you should see the image.

Hello Again,
I am ready to post pictures of the coin, however, I keep getting an error message saying the page cannot be displayed. I cropped the pics and made them smaller, the thought was that they were too large. But still I cannot post them. Any suggestions? Tena
