The sheen and surfaces are good indicators that this is a counterfeit. It might well be a gold piece of high purity but is not a genuine 1907 U.S. gold $20 coin.

I do, the surfaces remind me of modern US gold coins

It's a fake, besides having a grainy finishing on the surfaces of your coin the Rim and the Tail Feather details gives it away ,here are some pics. to compare yours with.

Yup agree surfaces are a dead giveaway I also see you noted possible casting bubbles too. Then whole surfaces are off, you'd expect hits since gold is so soft and scratches and dings easily.

I agree and Lex has a right notion, I have seen examples of middle Eastern counterfeit gold coins with very similar finishes to this one!

The reverse looks more counterfeit than the obverse.

These counterfeit $20s really scare me. After reading these post and other articles, I would not buy ANY gold coins ($1-$20) that are not NGC or PCGS certified. I even read about counterfeit gold pieces in fake NGC slabs. I think the fake NGC slab issue was a rarity. But, I still try to use the NGC search before buying any NGC certified coins. I'd rather pay a little more for Slabbed $1200-1400 coins and sleep better at night.

man2004 ,thats a good rule of thumb when it comes to purchasing a premium coin and if you have to buy a Raw coin One thing that is always alarming is to note where the item /seller location is, in most cases ( not all) if you see a US Gold coin is being offered by a seller out of China,Russian federation,Germany Etc.... do not rush to purchase do your research, compare it to an actual genuine coin first.

Thank you Chase007! I've had one deal that had me very anxious from a seller on the US West Coast. But, it turned out OK. I will definitely take your advice about overseas sellers. I am also trying to purchase from people that I have dealt with in the past. Also, I am rethinking my gold investing after reading what Paralyse wrote in a different thread that I started about pre-1933 gold value potential. I still have a lot to learn to avoid losing my shirt!
