Jimmyd have you taken a look at the stick section here titled Books, downloads, and websites? There is a lot of information on how to ID these coins there.

Yes - I've spent an hour or two each evening for the last few days reading through a host of links from this site and where they've lead me. I think I've got these two right as later "barbarous radiates" but I have no experience of roman (or ancient) coinage so I'm looking for validation of my own findings. If the posts are too much too soon, I absolutely understand.

I suspect that the coin on the right is a barbarous radiate. At 15mm it seems to me to be a bit large for late minimus radiates, but others can confirm that.

The coin on the left looks to me like a seriously reduced original mint issue, perhaps for Victorinus if I am seeing remnants of "...INVS" just above the forehead. The artwork on both sides is not far from normal mint output.

Some of the entire group could use a cleaning. The are two methods recommended, the first is to soak them in distilled water and the second to soak them in olive oil. I prefer the olive oil, it works much faster than distilled water. The only down side is that the oil tends to darken the coins a bit.

The one on the right is definitely barbarous. Left is a tough call. The original Gallic issues suffered from horrible artwork and quality control, further complicated by the fact that the Gallic mints were raided when Aurelian reclaimed it. I have a couple that were made with a stolen obverse die and a home-made reverse.
