both are Constantine II

Left is a two-standard Gloria Exercitus AE4 from the mint at Alexandria. Can't tell which officina. Full mark would be of the type SMAL<epsilon?). Since the "L" is preceded by an angular letter, like "A," I don't think it is an LG from Lyon/Lugdunum.

Right is an AE3 Vota coin (VOT X) but the mintmark is occluded.

Thanks @lrbguy - I've had the loupe out on this one too and it's really hard to make out even under magnification. However, with angled light there are three letters : ?MN which I read can only be Nikomedia. Does that make sense with the rest of your observation?

Nicomedia did not produce these for Constantine II.

The wreath and the disposition of the ties bear great affinity to what we see from the mint at Rome. That short horizontal which is centered below the middle of the wreath binding suggests the crossbar of a "T" for the mark "RT". Some of the encrustation in the exergue might be removable to reveal a bit more of the mint mark.

Short explanation of RT: as a mint mart the letter R stands for Rome. The letter "T" stands for "Tertia" which means "third," and refers to the number of the officina (workshop).

Thank you so much for all the information. I've had the glass back on there and even went so far as to pull out the x30 but the only thing that might help is to clean. I haven't touched these coins and I'm really loathe to try. For now, I think we'll leave it as an unknown as far as the mint mark goes.

I want to commend you for that. Until you know well what to expect and what the possibilities might be, it is too easy to shear off design details that might have told you what you wanted to know. It kept for nearly 2000 years this way, what's a little longer while you get your skills up.
