It's interesting to follow the link suppluied above.
Look at the description of each item, and the price paid.
A lot of Ebayers are happy to win a "1985 proof gold sovereign 4 coin set mint cert and box" - that's 68 grams of gold - for AU $295.90 (#
380017284182) - that's about one-eighth of "melt" value.
But they are surprised when the deal doesn't go through.
This is not just another case of "Fools and their money ...",
but rather "Greedy people and their money ..."
Another interesting feature is that, at the end, he was pretending to offer gold coins and high-value power tools. I suppose it's a simple matter to recycle a couple of pics into dozens of listings ... but I would have thought that someone would have asked a question about so many 1841 Mohurs coming onto the market at once.
But, he established his positive feedback by selling low-priced trinkets - which he actually delivered.
A premeditated and well-prepared scam. And one easy to repeat. Perhaps it's already underway ...
The risk-managers at
