1917 Possible Error Maybe - Coin Community Forum

Hounddog Bill Pillar of the Community Canada 1223 Posts	Posted 04/21/2017 12:31 pm I bought this coin thinking it was an error now I'm hoping for confirmation from the error specialist. It's in uncirculated condition and the reverse has collapsed and is recessed in the areas circled. I don't think it's PMD just take a look inside the holes. The obverse is affected by PMD gouges, metal is mounded up around the indentions. The reverse is affected by progressive indirect design transfer(PIDT), a form of die wear also known as "ghosting". SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10460 Posts	Posted 04/22/2017 01:12 am At first I thought it was ghosting phenomena, but the shape of the image on the reverse does not match the obverse outline... secondly, ghosting is common with Canadian Edward VII large cents, but is rarely seen with George V large cent series... I can see the image of the monarch on the reverse now that it's brought to my attention I just wasn't famiiar with ghosting. The holes in the obverse really have no other explanation except PSD but it's very unusual that there was no evidence transferred to the reverse and they seem to have depth. Thanks again all.
