I was pretty sure this was a form of Machine Doubling, until I noticed some splitting at the ends of the letters/numbers. If Machine Doubling is supposed to be flat and shelf like, can it also gradually disappear into the field like the pictures? Then again I am not so sure it all looks flat and shelf like, or my eyes may just be fooling me. I was under the impression that Hub Doubling was the only form of doubling that causes split serifs. Surely this can not be a Doubled Die because it displays doubling on both sides, right? This is pretty tricky stuff, I wish I had an example of each form sitting right in front of me. Its hard for me to say, yes, that is a Doubled Die or no that is Machine Doubled.

It looks late die state to me. There are a few 1960s DDOs with a similar look on the inside loops of the devices, but I'm not feeling this is one. I'd have to look on Brian's site to confirm; have you had a look yet yourself?

I think the obverse is machine damage. But CENTS looks like split serifs. What does everyone else think? I think you've got a DDR.

No I have not visited the website yet, but I did look in my CherryPickers Guide and the strike it rich book but did not see anything for this date except one for a proof coin.

Brian only lists WDDO-022 for business strikes. Doubling in the outer devices, but not the date. 3 business strike DDRs, but mainly in the lower outer devices.

I looked through Brian's listings as well to see if any business strikes fit the bill with no luck. I didn't go through all the proof listings in the unlikely event that your coin is an impaired proof. I think it's extra tough to tell since you've got wear, MD, and DD going on (as far as I can see). You might consider sending it in for attribution if you think it's not an impaired proof but instead an unlisted business strike variety.

Thank you all for looking at "Bryans" list of DD's. Quote: You might consider sending it in for attribution if you think it's not an impaired proof but instead an unlisted business strike variety. Wow, that would be cool to have a coin attributed to a listing! I just noticed I did not have any of the lower reverse lettering in the pictures.
