Hi all, looking for advice and willing to share a recent purchase from the RCM that just arrived today. I ordered a pearl flower coin and it arrived with no flowers what so ever attached with the coin. Just wondering if anyone else has received this coin in the same condition? if not, is this a keeper or do I return it for what I have ordered? Any advice would be helpful and thanks in advance. The real head scratcher here is what kind of quality program does the mint really have? hopefully my picture turns out

I would return it and don't be afraid to give them your opinion. That's very shoddy.
Sure it's an "error" but one that could be duplicated with the right chemicals to remove the flowers
This is just my opinion, but on the other hand you never know, someone may pay a premium for it, best luck

Send it back. The RCM probably has the greatest experience of all major mints on returns, especially in 2017 and the year is not half over.

Absolutely ridiculous. The Mint should be ashamed of their QA program. I would not only return it, I would return it directly to Sandra Hanington and ask her what kind of shop they are running. Just pathetic. This is like Ford delivering a car and forgetting to install 4 wheels. Definitely post a review on the mint.ca and if you really want to get their attention, post it on social media. They are quite active on Facebook and Twitter.

That is some very poor Qc! Sell it on ebay as an error, then buy a new one. You'll have funds leftover even.

I would not return it to the Mint because it could be an error coin that is very valuable Also, don't sell on ebay right away because if it a rarity it can only appreciate in value. As well, remember the gold colour Transatlantic coin? CCCC certified it as a gold plate error coin though someone on this forum later tested it and it was only toning. So keep it, maybe have it certified by CCCC as a error, then see where the value lies.

You may be right on the error angle MoneyPenney. Personally, I see this as a defect not an error but many will disagree and might pay a premium for it. I honestly don't know how easily the flowers could be removed from a complete coin but I suspect it would not be simple and not without damaging the surface of the coin. Curious, how did those few bug coins that had broken wings or dislodged butterflies etc do as error coins? That said, it's probably good advice to hold on to it, or put it on ebay at a crazy price and open to offers to gauge the demand. Having it graded and verified as an error would help. I also think the Mint would be happy to exchange it even past the normal 30 day return period.

According the RCM website, you have up to one year to return defective coins. Quote: If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, simply return it to us within 30 days. For defective products, returns are accepted for up to one year from your date of purchase. Depending on your indicated preference and/or product availability, we will gladly replace your purchase or provide you with a full refund.

This is getting really bad or should I say sad? RCM needs to step it up with their quality assurance. This year is the first year that I have returned so many coins to them because it is not what was promised on their website. Something is really wrong at RCM.

Thanks for all your input. I have decided to keep the coin and wait until this particular coin sells out in full to see if anyone else experienced the same issue which I have. I did reach out to my loyalty rep at the mint yesterday and I have not heard back from anyone as of this moment. I am curious to their feedback and will keep you posted on how they handle the situation. It is a neat circumstance and I think it will go well with my coin collection as this one particular coin will have a story behind it now (or at least a quality issue, lol). Heading back to the RCM site to place another order for the same coin so I have something to compare it to years down the road. Thanks to all. great forum

Just for reference, I'll include here a picture off of the mint's website showing the applique of the 'pearl flowers'. I would call what Exqsamwa received is definitely an error. Like others have said/asked is how difficult would it be to remove the applique - creating this same error.
