Disappointed With Quality Of 2016 Canadiana Polar Bear Kaleidoscope

JGG Pillar of the Community Canada 798 Posts	Posted 05/01/2017 9:28 pm Picked it up on ebay for C$45 + C$7 shipping. For those who haven't bought one, here are the pros and cons as I see it. Pros: - Coin is very large and thin. In size, it appears to be a 3 oz coin. - Concept is cool - Packing and kaleidoscope are fun and interesting - the Queen's side of the coin has a circular calligraphy etching, which looks very sharp. Cons: - Polar bear side is very low quality. It is printed onto a flat blank with no relief whatsoever. The image is very low quality, it looks like it was printed onto the coin by a colour dot matrix printer. - image quality is so poor, that it minimizes the effect of the kaleidoscope. In fact, it only kind of achieves this effect. - in my case, the image was not centred on the coin properly, so you could see the 'guide marks' used to line up the blank. - just generally not impressed with the poor craftsmanship of the polar bear side of the coin. You can get some really good deals from the wholesalers hired to clear out RCM inventory, or sellers like Dalhousie Auctions. Report this Post to the Staff

Take a look at the "geometry in art" series if you are interested in another option with a different design. But I guess your disappointment in the coin reflects the downside of after market online buying - at an LCS you can look at in hand and if you had got it from RCM you could always just return it for full refund.
