I received this coin several months ago from Jack in the Box. I showed it to my dad and he promptly pocketed it LOL. I just found it again and wanted to post it. What struck me at first was how old it was compared to its color. It looks fairly uncirculated. Then I looked a little closer and saw that it was fatter near the left side of "liberty" and thinner at the bottom of Lincoln's coat as if it was warped. The "L" in liberty is also very close to the left edge. The outside of the stamp above the 1964 is rough like the stamp is deeper than most stampings I've seen- I'm having a hard time describing it properly. I wanted to know what you all think about this coin. What do you think happened to it?

Actually is normal, possibly is a angled hit with the downward moving hammer die causing more pressure of the strike one way. Does one area look more "deeply" imprinted? And is the opposite side "weaker"? 180° out on reverse may be weaker on a strong hit edge. Just the way high speed metal presses work.

It's certainly a nice coin to get in change. Other than that, it's normal. I can only praise your attention to detail and wish you well in where that will lead you numismatically.

The base of Lincolns coat takes more metal to fill so there was less outward pressure toward the edge. Therefore the rims didn't fill as completely leaving you with a fairly square edge at LIBERTY, and an edge with a flat and bevels by the base of the coat. This is not at all unusual.

Thanks guys for your thoughts! I thought it was really neat that it was over 50 and so shiny. I'm going to have to keep this one. I really love and appreciate coins and I can't learn enough about them.
