The reason why I questioned the color is because there is a bluish light coming from the top of the pics (LED?).

If anything, that light would make it look more like a BB and not yellow IMO (aka incandescent).

I can't tell you how many "dark" nickels have passed through our registers at my part time job, I always look to see if they are War Nickels, but not these.
Rest in Peace

Here's mine. I found it in one of my childhood (which was a long time ago...) Whitman books after learning about them here at CCF.

I think the Denver is just there for comparison purposes.

Newbie and Sudz, yep even with wear they still have that "shine" color.

My wonder is from all I can tell, only Philadelphia in 1958 & 1959 had the GENUINE Black Beauty. Other imitators have shown up, but the preponderance seems to be only those years. Just how may were minted, 10%or 2%? Be interesting if that could be discovered.

The P mint on the 59's are noted for BB's ,notice the color is a very dark grey kind of dullish on circulated coins . the D mint is not noted for BB's ,notice the lighter grey color or normal Jeff Nickel .
I have seen many Black Beauties That are truly black . Product of an annealing mix up or improper alloy .
