US Mint - The United States Mint (Mint) will make available for purchase the American Liberty 225th Anniversary Silver Medal™ (product code 17XB) on June 14 at noon Eastern Time (ET).

US-Mint-Releases-Silver-Medal-Commemorating-Its-225th-Anniversary-On-June-14

The Mint is issuing this one-ounce proof medal in celebration of its 225th anniversary this year. Struck in 99.9 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, it is the medallic counterpart to the gold coin released earlier this year featuring a modern rendition of Liberty.

The obverse (heads) depicts a profile of Liberty wearing a crown of stars with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "1792," and "2017." The reverse (tails) depicts a bold and powerful eagle in flight, with eyes toward opportunity and a determination to attain it, with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."

Each medal is hand packaged in an exquisite, black matte finish presentation case and is accompanied by a companion booklet detailing the evolution of our Nation's symbol.

The American Liberty 225th Anniversary Silver Medal is priced at $59.95. Orders will be accepted at the Mint's online catalog and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. Visit us online to learn more about our shipping options.

As much as I like the design I fear these will be available for around $30-40 a year from now. The premium is just too steep, esp. considering these are "just" medals and have - at least for now - an unlimited mintage.
But these are still considerably cheaper than the corresponding gold coin release.

How much are they selling for? I bought 4 of the medals last year due to the 12,500 mintage and I believe they were $36. No brainer. If these are unlimited, they will be a sure loser

I have no doubt these will probably drop over time, but I am not buying one for profit and I do not really want to wait to get one.

There is no mintage limit now, but it would be interesting if the mint suddenly ended sales at some arbitrary point.
