Hi ojo

I have several methods that I use, and there are many more as individual as those who have developed them,, but all have some similarities.

History of the area is a great place to start, look thru the history of your home town, find maps and photos if possible and from there determine the older areas, then look for places where people might frequent in numbers, some examples would be schools, play grounds, football fields, baseball fields, old parks, fair gounds, or carnival sites, these are the likely places where a person could find coins, the older the site the older the coins could possibly be.

another good way to find places to detect and also for a beginner detectorist is to see if possibly there is a detecting club in your area.

Happy Hunting !!

"oh" the more you hunt, the more you use your detector, the better you will get at determining which tones and targets to dig!!! so dont get frustrated when you dig a pound of pull tabs!! persistence pays off !!!

Hope this helps

pound of pull tabs is still a goood find any scrap merchant will buy them from you
Alumimum is around a buck a pound Copper twice that and nickel if you are lucky enough to find it is around $6 a pound. Most of the scrap dealers I know will pay between 60% and 80% of spot for small amounts and up to 95% spot for larger amounts. Have not tried metal detecting yet but I quite often walk rural highways picking up cans call me cheap but its excersise that pays dividends.
