Here's what comes up on heritage. Remember, these are all certified MS65's. The ebay one you listed is not. Mike

1943-D/D 1C This is one of the most dramatic doubled mintmarks in the entire Lincoln Cent series, and add the special desirability of a steel cent variety, and this is an important offering. The only thing we can't figure out is what the need was for repunching this mintmark. The original position, southwest of the final position, seems perfectly normal.

I'd be inclined to bid no more on this coin than I could afford to lose. While the seller has very good feedback, he does not have a stated return policy and I'm always suspicious of that. Also, the images have been enhanced (plus too much reflection); I'd rather see an unretouched picture.

From all the Heritage sales of certified coins, this one, at first glance has a great deal of potential financial gain. However, since it is not certified, I would ask "Why not?" since a certified coin of this relatively rare type would bring a LOT more to the seller if it were certified by a top TPG.

All that said, at the price it presently is ($20.50) and with less than an hour to go, I might risk a bid of up to what I can afford to lose.

Rest in Peace

I see somebody some of us know got it for $49.09. It's either the deal of the century or he just lost $49.08, shipping not included. Will be very interested to see how this comes out.

Fred, I'll let you all know when it arrives! I don't collect errors, but my curiosity got the best of me. I think it is worth something more then 1 cent, but perhaps not $52.00 with shipping. I've seen much more defined examples of this error, some with a virtually complete second D! Most like this example are $25.00 to $50.00 raw. I am also a realist in that I don't believe I'm going to make a killing. I just liked the coin, and if it had not come up here, I would have never seen it. Mike

I wuz wondering if you were gonna step forward and reveal yourself. [:0] I was also wondering about the degree of the doubling - it seemed to me from the enhanced images that it was barely visible; hence, the enhanced images. When it arrives, I'd love to see a scan of it and get your opinion. If it is a fairly clear doubling, it might be worth your while to get it graded. If say, PCGS certifies it as a DD, then you've easily made your investment worthwhile. Good luck!

Fred
