In 2008, 2009 and 2010, Mexico simultaneously celebrated the Bicentennial of the beginning of the Mexico's War of Independence and the Centennial of the beginning of the Mexican Revolution with a series of bimetallic Five Peso circulating commemorative coins - 19 for the Bicentennial and 18 for the Centennial.

First up here is the 2008 Set marking the Bicentennial of the start of Mexico's War of Independence - I picked up the coins in the custom Bank of Mexico folder.

The people commemorated by the coins in the folder are: (starting at the Noon position and working clockwise)

- Ignacio López Rayón
- Carlos María de Bustamante
- Francisco Xavier Mina
- Francisco Primo de Verdad y Ramos (with dots in outer rim)
- Francisco Primo de Verdad y Ramos (without dots in outer rim)
- Mariano Matamoros
- Miguel Ramos Arizpe
- Hermenegildo Galeana

All of the coins share a common obverse design: a Mexican Golden Eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus with a rattlesnake in its beak; it is the Coat of Arms of Mexico.
