This is my first post but didn't know were else to go to find out so figured the best place....... Coin Community lol.

I ran across this one the other day at work and notice the S looked out of place or to close to the 9 compared to other coins of the same year or similar years. Could someone please help me on this one. This just doesn't look normal to me or is normal. If you could give me a link or were to go to check out this variety or error I would appreciate it very much.

Mintmarks were added by hand after the initial hubbing process, so you tend to see a very large variety of height, tilt, and size of mintmarks. This is why you see Repunched Mintmarks and Over Mintmarks. This just happened to be a little higher than you would expect, but it's still normal.

IIRC, the mintmark must be below of the date and cannot intersect it or touch the portrait, and that's about it.

Those two particular cents are actually pretty similar. I've seen (photos of) 1950s cents whose mintmarks really were all over the place (up to and including almost touching the date).

If it is in that triangular area below the date and it isn't touching anything it's fine.
