How do you tell the difference between die polishing lines and a cleaning? I got a couple of old dimes that a seller said he took straight from a 1949 mint set. However I see a lot of hairlines on them so I am questioning if they have been cleaned or if it could be die polish lines. Would they have had die polish lines on a 1949 business strike coin? Thanks!

Die polishing lines are raised on the coin and mostly on the fields, cleaning scratches on the coin are incuse and go across the devices.

Unfortunately, that's near impossible. The lines are easy to see under a loupe but I don't have a way to get a picture through it. this is the best I can do..

Could you give us pictures of the entire coin also without being as close? Your pics show lines that seem to not effect the devices and they are pretty big like something with the die. Can't tell for sure but trying.

If can see the lines in those poor pix, don't think they are cleaning "hairlines", you got some Mega lines, not micro!

I strongly suspect those are "die polish" lines.
