Hi all...

I notice that about one in every five or so 1985 Canada one cent coins has a narrow top on the 5. It has the same thickness as the pointed variety, but there's no point on the right edge. I'd call it blunt 5, narrow top.

I am wondering if anybody else has observed this variation in the `5'. Do all pointed 5s have a narrow top?

Am I completely out to lunch here?

Here are three `5's coming from 1985 Canadian 1 cent coins. Sorry that these pics are so terrible.

Anyhow, the third is pointed. But the first two seem different to me. Check the vertical stems.

Any opinions?

I can definitely see several differences between those 3 numbers. Another thing I note with the "pointed 5" is the shorter vertical stroke. I'll look for these at shows!

Kurt, just as a bit of curiosity, I went thru 43 cents for '85, and all are blunt. So the P5-short neck, will be very hard to find, IMHO!

Dick, yes...the pointed 5 seems to be scarce, and I hear there are pointed/blunt '75 varieties too, with the blunt being scarcer! I'll keep my eyes open for this coin!

Dick, I've found two 1985 Pointed 5's in almost three years of searching. Oddly enough, they came about three weeks apart. I think I'm due for another one soon.

Kurt, I just went thru 64 '75's, and 58 are pointed, 5 are possible blunt, 1, definitely blunt.
Chris, I jusr finished a bunch of Blunt "5"s, but Don't recall if for the '65, or '85. I'll have to check. the point is, that there was no pont(ed). Maybe Kurt recalls. I think we were checking on them.

Dick, good find! Sofar the "centsus" would indicate blunt 75 is scarcer!
Interesting...I'm keeping my eyes open for one...preferably from a PL set.
