So I found this in a roll set it aside. Looking at it now more closely I think it is a strike through/cladding error? I can't feel any ridges with my fingernail and the color does not come off. Also there is no ridge on the obverse edge, it slopes down.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thx,
Finn

That must be the rumored digital camo Kennedy!

Just kidding. So, if I understand correctly, the obverse is only a color variation? And, there is no discernible tactile difference between the colors?

It gives the impression that mesh or screen was involved somehow, I just don't know how specifically. I'll have to ruminate for a bit on this one.

The surface feels completely smooth. I tried to take a picture close enough to show that. I can try another one through a loop if that would help. Just looks like the cladding didn't take on a part of the coin but I thought that would leave an edge of some kind.

Looks like possibly glue of some sort on the coin . You can give it a soak in acetone and if it's glue it will come off.i had a Wheat penny that had the same pattern on it and the same feel you are talking about but it came off with acetone.

This looks like a case of surface discoloration / minor corrosion to me.
My theory is that a corrosive environment has been set up with a damp, partly folded woven material sitting on the surface of the coin. Something has dissolved into the dampness of the overlying woven material to cause minor corrosion and noticeable discoloration.

Not an error, just surface staining/toning.
