I recently purchased a US coin collection. While going through the collection I found a bag marked "foreign coins". Upon opening it I discovered a fair amount of coins from Austraila, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and even Cyprus. Most of the Coins are George VI and early Elizabeth IIs.
They range from half penny, three pence, six pence, half crown and florins. Some appear to be silver. How do I judget the value of the coins? Also, are there any dates I should be looking for? Interesting the Cyprus coins have the queen wearing a crown, while the others don't. Does anyone know the reason for this?
Any help would be appreciated.

G'day, crowned -v- uncrowned: always a mystery to me. KGV was crowned on Oz coins, but not on Pommies (Limeys, to you). Then KG6 was uncrowned. QE2 was uncrowned in the pre-decimal era, but crowned in the three different effigies used since 1966. If there's any significance in this, rather than idle speculation, I'd love to hear it. ... and regarding silver content: Australian coins were sterling silver (92.5%) upto 1945; and 50% from 1946 to to end of the pre-decimal era. I don't know the dates for the changes in other Commonwealth countries. Peter

Elizabeth II, I presume. Cyprus was a British colony. quote: Interesting the Cyprus coins have the queen wearing a crown, while the others don't. Does anyone know the reason for this?
I believe the governments in each of the countries had a say in what the designs of the coins should be, so each country decided whether to use crowned or uncrowned portraits. For the colonial dependencies, the British Colonial Service would have decided for them.

Sorry about not having pictures, I will do my best to post them, but it may take a week due to my schedule. From what I understand you can use a scanner to do this, otherwise I am lost.
Some of the coins are beautiful. I am still sorting through the them. I will try and list what I have found later in the week.
