Looking through a bag of mostly LWC my fiance had collected over the years with her grandfather. As it turns out he was an avid coin collector. Found 2 (labeled A and B) Type 1 planchets (blanks) and 1 Type 2 planchet.

All three weigh 3.12 grams. So I think their real.

I thought they were a cool find so I decided to post them.

Wow, it always amazes me how such a massive error could escape the mint. Very cool!

Type 2 blank planchets were included by the mint in several of the uncirculated coin sets - you have six spaces in the cellophane and had to stick SOMETHING in the extra slot. Also used copper P and D tokens some years.

Type 1s probably just found on the floor and tossed in the outgoing bin by a worker trying to be helpful.

Well, the mint did give out blank planchets too if you took a mint tour.

Looks like 2 blanks and 1 planchet (bottom pic). Blanks are just the flat round stampings, planchets are blanks that have been run through an upset mill giving the blank a
pre-strike rim.

It's really not an error. It's just a planchet.
