Hi again guys. I'd like to post a pic of the 1972 silver quarter, but I'm having problems getting it to come in clear. I then would need to know how to post the pic on here...any ideas/help? I'd like to share since many of you helped me out earlier today. :)

No silver quarters of any kind were minted in 1972.

Sorry guys... Well...I have next to me the '72 silver, if I can figure out how to take a pic and post, I will. But first, I can't seem to get the coin focused so the sides and date can be seen well... any suggestions?

Not to dissuade you, but our skepticism has grounds because we haven't heard of any '72 silver quarters. Additionally, I doubt it could be an off-metal strike because what other silver coins of that size were minted in '72? So if your coin is silver plated, a photo wouldn't help determine composition. I'd suggest taking your coin to a trusted dealer who has a precise scale and compare to the weight for a clad quarter (~5.67gr) Good luck!  Edited by KurtS

I said this in an earlier post... I took the coin in question to a coin show in Baltimore a few years ago. "Heritage" was there (I would imagine many of you know of them and their reputation). The vice president took the coin and thoroughly examined it. He returned, and offered me $1000.00 for it. I have a ton of silver quarters, and this one looks, feels, and appears to weigh absolutely no different from the others. While I readily admit I am no numismatist (?), I do have a pretty good eye for such detail; this coupled with the Heritage guy might help support my claim here. You may be right though...a picture will be difficult for you all here to truly appreciate it. All I can say is trust me. The coin is in (what I think might be) near uncirculated condition. There is no wear, and the edges are still "sharp"...

Kurt... I was asked earlier to post a picture of the '72, but I didn't have a camera; I do now. Since members here were so helpful for me earlier, I thought I might attempt to do as one requested, and post a picture. I have no doubt about the '72...it is clearly a silver quarter.

Eel...feel free. Pardon me if I sounded rude, but I have no way to confirm/deny what you say--it's untestable. I'm hardly an expert on US quarters, so I'll let others comment from now on.  |

Kurt...please feel free to comment; I'm enjoying this discussion. That said, I know context can be sometimes indiscernible. I was just trying to give something back to the forum. I appreciate your responses, and feedback. :)

Good morning all. That is not me selling on ebay! I do like all the controversy surrounding the idea that my quarter may or may not be silver, further proving its' rarity. Again, I ask if anyone is local to me, and I'd be happy to meet with them so they could have a look for themselves :) Trust me...the coin is a silver planchet as was used in the 1964 and older Washingtons. |
