You can currently buy State Quarter dies but the face is completely removed

An older method involved torching the face of the die, literally melting the steel. That method did occasionally leave small bits of detail.

My guess was going to be 23, but I did not want to be the first to go. Therefore, I will now say 27! I feel everyone will be here guessing and drive the page count up!

I wonder if eel is still alive? We haven't heard from him or anyone with information in a long time.

And since when does it take several months to have a coin reviewed and slabbed? -PP

You caught us, we made all this up.

35 day turnaround for errors means up to 2 months because weekends, holidays, and show days don't count and that's if they are running on time (which they clearly don't guarantee). So "several months" is not only not unusual for an error coin, it's somewhat normal. Plus it's specifically earmarked for Fred Weinberg to look at as far as I know.

Just read some of the past threads where people sent things off for grading. You will often see a large time gap between "I am sending my <insert coin here> off to <insert TPG here>" and "I got it back today and it graded <insert grade here>."
