Hello. Why is the 2013 S$20 Plain Edge Portrait of Power coin an 'error coin' as opposed to a variety. I'm starting to believe that there are a solid handful of these coins out there. I find it very odd that the 1985-1988 plain edge coins, and the 1992 plain edge coins are 'variety coins', whereas the 2013 Portrait of Power is an 'error coin'. So what is the difference.

The missing edge lettering coins should be an error coin, but unless someone tells you they look normal, no eye appeal very little collector interest

Intended minor design differences are generally considered varieties of a given type; unintended design differences are classified as errors.

Each Canadian coin that is missing its intended edge lettering is the result of an error in its production - all such coins are correctly considered "error coins."

Though not sought out by mainstream collectors, they are avidly pursued by those intrigued by what can go wrong during the coin striking process and those who simply are fascinated by something "different." I know quite a few collectors of error coins.
