I have about 18 large cents with no dates that I inherited. What do you do with these?

Not really much. Make a necklace or something from it?

So, I'm assuming that you have Large Cents in such bad condition that the date can't be read.
You have people who save any "Pre" date pennies because of "copper" value. Well.....here with your Large Cents you have some copper !
There may be some ways to "reveal" the date on these.... similar to "nic-a-date" on Buffalo nickels, but I'm not aware of any myself that would work here.
I'm sure there are people out there who would buy them for a little bit (no dealers or serious coin people would though).....but if you " inherited" them, just throw them in a box somewhere for 30 years or so.

If there is any detail at all, make sure you know what 'type' of large cents they are. The Flowing Hair type was only made in 1793, and even without a date is worth more than a few dollars.

The Liberty Cap (1793-1796) would also sell for a premium, even dateless.

If we're talking Liberty Head (1816-1857) then I believe you have some nice "pocket pieces" or maybe a gift to spark the interest of a young numismatist. I'm sure they can also be sold on ebay for a few dollars each.

Here is a link to a site that sells "culls" and they list dateless Large Cents for $3 each.

Got any kids? Nieces, nephews or just a kid you know who seems kinda cool? Give them one and explain a little about how Lincoln wasn't always on the cent or that it wasn't always the size it is now. Maybe you'll get that glazed look we're all so familiar with when we launch into a talk on our hobby to normal people but then again maybe you'll start a budding collector. Maybe not now but possibly ten or twenty years down the road when they find that odd looking coin in a shoebox with a bunch of other treasures from when they were a kid. They probably aren't worth much anyway and they didn't cost you anything so what the heck.

Eaglefoot, there is no nic-a-dates for copper coins, I spent two weeks searching the web and magazines, I had a few no dates.

I should have time this weekend to post a couple of pics. Some of them are pretty rough. I'll post a couple of the "better" ones.

MLFLY - I've got a similar situation - I think I've got 16 Large Cents ranging from 1802 to 1851- all have readable dates, but they spent alot of time out there in commerce - beat up pretty good, and I think a couple of them were dug. I just put them up for a future generation as I don't think they're worth much considering their condition. Maybe when they're really old.....
